In short: CastWire is published by a private individual in France, responsible for your data (contact@castwire.net). No cookies, no tracking. We keep server logs for 15 days for security, your emails to answer you, and public facts about screen professionals to report the news. You can see, correct, delete or object to what we hold at any time, and complain to the CNIL. The details are below.
If you are listed on CastWire
CastWire has a page for actors and other people of the screen, and lists the news that names them. We didn't get this from you, so here is what we hold.
- What: your name, description, dates, known-for, awards, IMDb and TMDB identifiers, a photo, the news stories that name you (an extract and a link), your reply, and our rankings and Wikipedia page-view counts.
- Where from: Wikidata (the facts), Wikimedia Commons (the photo), entertainment publishers' news feeds (the stories) and Wikimedia's page views (how often your page is read). Details on the sources and credits page.
- Why: to report on the professional news of people of film and television. Our legal basis is our legitimate interest, and the public's, in being informed.
- For how long: your page stays while Wikidata describes you as an actor or screen professional, or until you object. Stories are deleted two years after their publication; backups of them are kept 14 days. Your reply stays until you ask us to take it down.
- Your choice: you can object at any time, and we remove your page and photo, unlink you from every story, and keep you out of later updates. To keep you out, we keep your name and Wikidata identifier on a removal list for as long as that is needed. See corrections, removals and replies.
What we don't collect
No cookies, no browser storage, no tracking scripts, no accounts.
What our server records
Like any website, our server writes a technical log of the requests it answers: the address of the device that asked (IP address), the page's address, including any name you searched for, the result, the time, and technical details such as the size of the answer and how long it took. Nothing else: not your browser's name, nor the page you came from. We use it to run the site and keep it secure, for example to stop an attack. We also count visits from it, privately, to see how many people come and which pages they read. The counts never show who you are. This is our legitimate interest. The log is deleted within 15 days, and the counts keep no full IP address.
When you write to us
If you email us, we use your address and message to answer you, and to keep a record of a request, such as a correction or a removal: our legitimate interest, and our legal duty to handle requests about personal data. We delete them 12 months after our last exchange.
Who else sees the data
Our host, Contabo GmbH, which runs our server; and, for the emails you send us, Cloudflare, which forwards them, and Google (Gmail), where we read them; both may handle mail in the United States under the EU–US Data Privacy Framework. No one else, unless the law requires it.
Your rights
You can see, correct, delete, restrict or export your data, and object to its use, including the visit counts. Write to contact@castwire.net. You can also complain to the CNIL (cnil.fr).
